This page provides information on what a Media is and on how to compile it.

What is a Media?

A Media is a multimedia element within a POI.

Imagine the POI as a picture book. The story is composed of photos or videos with brief captions.

The pages of this book - that is Media and News - must be ordered in Chapters (Context, History, Architecture, etc.) in order to have an interesting and structured story.

Fields

Title

Topic title or short sentence to describe the presented video or image effectively.

The title of each Media appears on the POI dossier followed by other Media's titles, in order to create a sort of index of the whole story of the POI. To have this storytelling effect, keep in mind that the order of the Chapters is mandatory (see #Chapters) and that you can reorder the Media within each chapter (see #Order in Chapters).

Chapter

Dividing each POI into chapters to organize its story is the same as dividing a book into chapters.

To create an ordered storytelling of the POI, Media are assigned to set up Chapters: News, Presentation, Context, Places, History, Architecture, Projects, Events, Details, Stories, Extra materials. The order of the Chapters is fixed, while Media can be organized within the chapter (see #Order in the Chapter). Including the Media in the Chapter is mandatory if the POI was organized in chapters(see POI guide: Types of visualization).

Link to POI

Use this drop-down menu to look for the name of the POI which you want to insert the media in.

You must link the Media to a POI. Media or News can be linked to more than one POI.

Text

Text related to an image or video.

The content should refer to the image or to the video, keeping in mind that it will be read as a paragraph of the whole story of the POI. Each text should explain how a Media or News add something specific to the whole story. Try avoiding repetitions or insights that are too technical (you can add links to these insights to the website).

The suggested length is 500 digits spaces included, up to a maximum of 800 digits.

Language Button

Description in other languages -Italiano, English, Français, 中文- available.

Caption

Short text referring to Media description and its content.

(Example: image or art piece title, name of the photographer, clarification on the photo's angle, etc.)

Suggested length: 100 digits spaces included, up to maximum 150 digits.

Add Tag

Add some keywords to characterize the element and eventually link it to other Media similar in topic or location. While writing, existing Tags will be suggested. You can create new Tags.

Help: Tag

Slideshow/Highlights visualization

If you choose Highlights you should insert a relevant media to the POI story. In the POI dossier, a preview of the image and the first sentence of the text will automatically appear.

Insert URL and last visit date if the source is the web, bibliographic references if the source is physical.

Authors (Surname Name)

If relevant, write the surnames and names of the authors, who must be quoted if they are clearly cited in the source. If the multimedia file is yours insert your surname and name.

Group permissions

With this option you can choose the groups of users that can see or modify the Media, once it is selected as Ready.

Advanced options

Ready: writing complete. Further modifications are possible. Media are visible both on the List and on Atlas for the authorized work group.

Public: verified media, immediately visible to all the users on Atlas.

In any case, unsaved materials will not be registered and will be lost.

AtlasFor Staff has the right to remove any material (classified as a "draft" and upon warning of the author) which goes against the goals and style of Landscapefor.

Order in chapters

You can choose the order in which the Media inside each chapter will be presented.

When opening the Media list linked to a POI, a table of Media will appear. You can drag each Media using the "drag-and-drop..." link of the Chapter column of each Media to obtain the intended order. At the end of the operation, save the new order.

Archives

A theme which unites all the POI referred to it and allows you to select them on the map or in the list of the Dashboard.

For users the archive is predefined and cannot be modified. Expert users can attribute a Media to different archives among the ones suggested on the list, selecting the Media on the basis of different themes. Usually, the archive associated to the Media is the same as the linked POI, but it is possible to attribute the Media to a different archive.

Personal Notes

Review

Space reserved to AtlasFor Staff. It is used to indicate to users corrections or insights that are necessary for the Media.
