This page provides information on what a Mediais and on how to compile it.

What is a Media?

A Media is a multimedia element within a POI/en.

Imagine the POI as a picture book. The story is composed of photos or videos with brief captions.

The pages of this book - that is Media and News - must be ordered in Chapters (Context, History, Architecture, etc.) in order to have an interesting and structured story.

Fields

Title

Topic title or short sentence to describe the presented video or image effectively.

The title of each Media appears on the POI dossier followed by other Media's titles, in order to create a sort of index of the whole story of the POI. To have this storytelling effect, keep in mind that the order of the Chapters is mandatory (see #Chapters) and that you can reorder the Media within each chapter (see #Order in Chapters).

Chapter

Dividing each POI into chapters to organize its story is the same as dividing a book into chapters.

To create an ordered storytelling of the POI, Media are assigned to set up Chapters: News, Presentation, Context, Places, History, Architecture, Projects, Events, Details, Stories, Extra materials. The order of the Chapters is fixed, while Media, can be organized within the chapter (see #Order in the Chapter). Including the Media in the Chapter is mandatory if the POI was organized in chapters(see POI guide: Types of visualization).

Link to POI

Use this drop-down menu to look for the name of the POI which you want to insert the media in.

You must link the Media to a POI. Media or News can be linked to more than one POI.

Text

Text related to image or video.

The content should refer to the image or to the video, keeping in mind that it will be read as a paragraph of the whole story of the POI. Each text should explain how a Media or News add something specific to the whole story. Try avoiding repetitions or insights that are too technical (you can add links to these insights to the website).

The suggested length is 500 digits spaces included, up to a maximum of 800 digits.

Language button

Description in other languages -Italiano, English, Français, 中文- available.

Caption

Short text referring to Media description and its content.

(Example: image or art piece title, name of the photographer, clarification on the photo's angle, etc.)

Suggested length: 100 digits spaces included, up to maximum 150 digits.

Add Tag

Add Tag

Add some keywords to characterize the element and eventually link it to other Media similar in topic or location. While writing, existing Tags will be suggested. You can create new Tags.

Multimedia File

The Multimedia file is the fundamental content of Media and News.

If it is an image, a video, an audio file, a PDF text, use the button Upload, which opens a specific window. Otherwise, if you want to use a video on Youtube you should use the sharing code generated by Youtube. Through the function "Upload preview" you can add a preview image of the video.

Type of file

Technical characteristics that must be satisfied are:

Images

Suggested format
*.jpg, *.png
Standard dimention
relation 4:3 (e.g. 1000x750 pixel)
Resolution
max. 200 dpi
Dimension
max. 500 KB.

Video

Suggested solution
link to a Youtube video (preferably on your own channel), for which you should insert the sharing code.
For example, if the sharing code is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvKrc7u17Yk you should insert only nvKrc7u17Yk.
It is also possible to directly insert little videos (max 10 MB)
Suggested format
*.mp4, *.mpeg, *.ogg, *webm
Standard dimension
format 16:9 e 720p (1280x720) if short (about 1 minute); 4x3 with 640x480 pixel if longer.

Audio

Suggested format
*.mp3, *.ogg

Slideshow/Highlight visualization

If you choose "highlight" you should insert a media important for the POI story; in the POI dossier, there will automatically be a preview of the image and the first sentence of the text.

If you choose "slideshow" the Media does not essentially participate in the POI storytelling, even without the caption. In the POI dossier, there will be a slideshow at the bottom of the chapter with a little preview image.

Credits/Sources

Source of the multimedia file.

URL and consulting date if the source is the web, bibliographic references if the source is a book.

Authors (surname and name)

If relevant you should write surnames and names of the authors, or even if it is written on the source. If the multimedia file is yours you should insert your name and surname.

Copyright holder

Copyright holder (institution or person) if relevant (e.g. Museo Torino).

NB Do NOT upload material which is protected by copyright without authorization.

Choose a license

Specify the license of the multimedia content, if relevant and necessary.

External links

Insert the URL of web pages which deepen the subject or which discuss complementary topics.

You should insert the URL of the website, followed by a space and a title. Only the title will be visible to the user.

For example if you insert:

http://www.museotorino.it See on Museo Torino

User will see only the active link:

See on Museo Torino

Group permissions

Choice of user groups who can see or modify the Media, when it is ready.

Advanced options

Save as

Draft: still not complete, available for modifications and integrations. Drafts are visible only in List, not on Atlas from the authorized group work.

Ready: writing complete. Further modifications are possible. Media schedules are visible both on List and on Atlas for the authorized group work.

Public: verified schedule, immediately visible from all the users on Atlas.

In every case, not saved materials will not be registered and will be lost.

The AtlasFor Staff reserves the right to remove any material (classifying as a draft and warning the author) which goes against target and stile at the basis of Landscapefor.

Order in chapters

You can choose the order in which present your Media inside each chapter.

Following the link, you will see a table with all the Media included in the chapter. You can drag the Media (drag-and-drop) to obtain the intended order. At the end of the operation, you have to save the new order.

Archives

A theme which unites all the POI referred to. It allows you to select them in the map or in the list.

For the operators the archive is predefined and it can not be modified. Expert users can attribute a POI to different archives between the ones suggested on the list, allowing in this way a selection on the basis of different themes. Usually, Media archive is the same of the POI referred to, even if it is possible to attribute to Media different archives.

Personal Notes

Space for personal notes, as a reminder or to share ideas with the members of the working group.

Review

Space reserved to the AtlasFor Staff. It is used to indicate to operators eventual corrections or insights, necessary for the publication of the POI.
